Reliquary for growing pains

Copper, brass, and colored pencil on paper

2.5” x 1.5” x 1” closed, 2.5” x 9” expanded

2023

An extension of my Growing Pains illustration project from 2020, this multidimensional development three years later offers an assuring epilogue in both new and familiar media. This handmade, house-shaped reliquary holds words, images, and space reverent to growth, vulnerability, and youth. It also features five functional hinges, a curved clasp, and sweat-soldered details.

When read, the metal grows warm in the hands of the holder. The reliquary carries a surprising yet satisfying weight, gently reminding you of its presence when carried around in your pocket. It is precious but not too fragile for travel, meant to be kept close when far from home.
